About Les Arcs Ski Resort

Set spectacularly high in the 'Arc' mountains, Les Arcs is a wonderful, modern resort filled with inspiring skiing. Now linked to La Plagne, the "Paradiski" area offers a massive 420 km of pistes, including the Aiguille Rouge glacier above Arc 2000 and the Bellecote glacier in La Plagne, with guaranteed snow. The resort comprises of 5 self-contained villages at different heights: Arc 2000, 1950, 1800, 1600 and Plan-Peisey (also at 1600). Arc 1800 is the largest village, with a lively atmosphere and excellent access to the skiing.

Plan Peisey is the arrival and departure point of the Vanoise Express cable car which links the two resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs. It has a number of bars and restaurants to choose from whilst Vallandry, about 10 minutes walk away, offers further choice. NB - Please note - We have received verbal reports that the Vanoise Express lift connecting Les Arcs to La Plagne will not be operating this season. We are currently trying to obtain written comfirmation of this so watch this space... - Dec 2007

Apres ski in Les Arcs

Good aprs ski in Arc 1800, more limited in Arc 2000 but nevertheless chic and cheerful. Red Hot Saloon Bar with live music in 1800, Blue Bar for a lively, informal atmosphere and more live music in 2000. Discos include the Apocalypse in 1800 and the KL92 in Arc 2000.

Families and children

All resorts have ski schools for children from as young as 3 and a good selection of nurseries are offered. The children's area at 1800 has a moving carpet lifts, a sledging track and a climbing wall.

Activites in Les Arcs

Paragliding Floodlit skiing (1800 and 2000) Ice rink (1800 and 2000) Frozen waterfall climbing (2000). Good shopping (particularly for buying ski equipment) in Bourg-St-Maurice and we enjoy the quaint French Saturday markets. There is also a public pool in this town or you could travel and visit the Beaufort dairy. The ice grotto is good at the top of the Transarc, which pedestrians can reach.

Eating Out in Les Arcs

Good choice in Arc 1800 - although fewer restaurants to chose from in Arc 1600 and 2000. Meat or cheese fondue for around 30 Euros including wine and dessert. Marloup for tasty fish dishes, Bellefume for grills, Red Rock Bar for great burgers. Try Gargantus in 1800 for regional dishes, St Jacques in Arc 2000 for French ambiance or the Triangle Noir for pizzas and local specialities or try Casa Mia.
